Microsoft Statistics and Information Technology Laboratory of Peking University was founded in April 2005. The joint research lab is established by School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University and Microsoft Research Asia, in order to carry out research and development in statistics and information technologies. The lab also aims to foster a new generation of talent with skills and knowledge in statistics, mathematics, information theory and computing technologies. Projects undertaken include integrating advanced statistical methods with other disciplines such as medical imaging, remote sensing and biology. In addition, the lab also organizes various activities to strengthen the communications between the academic communities and cultivate talents in statistics and information technologies. The lab was upgraded to a China Ministry of Education Key Lab in April 2008. The goal is to build a first class research lab in the areas of statistical, computational and information science.
